Hello dear reader,
I’ve been trying to get this newsletter out for almost a full month. So much has happened. Spakow! 4, Heroes con, and Power Pulp Launched. So let’s hit these points in order.
SPAKOW! no.4
The latest issue of Spakow! is out now! (more on that in a bit) It’s full of some fun stories that I think really pushed myself to another level of comics making. Just like issue 3, issue 4 is the best comic I’ve ever made. That’s a good thing, means I’m getting better. The Cover story is most of this issue a 20 one shot called the Ballad of Bare-Knuckle John. Probably my most Eisner-y story I’ve ever done. I’m real proud of it! And I hope you dig it.
The issue sold out at Heroes con and I was hit with an insane printing price hike once I got home. It made me postpone any new stuff coming out for a little bit. Check the last 2 posts for more info on all of that and the fix:
I've Been Crunching Numbers
That’s actual footage of me trying to figure out the numbers for SPAKOW’s printing in the wake of my last post. It’s been a wild couple of days, gang. Some big swings up and down. I’ve been a wretch emotionally and frantic about still being able to get the book and not break the bank, or worse… loose money on this deal. Here’s that post:
The fix has been found. I am waiting on a new printing of issue 1 to see how it all looks and works. Should have more on that in the next week or so. All very exciting stuff. All issues are being reworked for this new format. I may skip ahead and try and get issue 4 done this up coming week so you can get a copy of the book ASAP!
HEROES CON 2025
What a show what a time. I didn’t take a lot of pictures this year. I was working like a dog and barely had time to walk around the show floor. Thank you to all that came out and made it my best Heroes Con of all time. I sold more book and did more commissions than I ever had at any show ever!
Heroes has been a part of my life for over a decade now. It was the first big show I ever did and I attribute so much of my modest success I have had in this industry to the fine folks over at Heroes. Seth, Karla, Shelton.
Big shout out to (name drop)
and The gang who’s fans showed up in droves to my table getting books and sketches of Skottie’s characters! Also how could I not mention the
crew for always coming out and showing out.Trey, who runs the art auction side of Heroes, was maybe one of the first people that looked at my work, some 11 years ago, and saw something in it. Adding me to the Saturday night art auction. An event that has, every year, done more for my notoriety than any comic I’ve ever made. Thank you, Trey. Love you and your family from the bottom of my heart.
HEROES CON is full of family.
It’s weird, you spend all this time in a room making your silly little comics talking to people only really behind a screen the friends you do have may not even work in the comic book world. (mine don’t really at least) And then you go to a convention and people are all smiles and hugs and anything that has got you down is immediately washed away by the love in the room. This year I got to take
as my booth babe and introduce him to all the people I love. He wrote the second Wizard Cowboy story in Spakow! 3 so he needed to know what this comics game was all about. You still here? cool now let’s talk
POWER PULP!
A new type of distributor has showed up in the comics game and I'm here to tell you it’s were us cool kids are hanging out!
We have a Substack and I’m running it… Go over there and check it out and see all the good stuff that is coming out through the latest comic book collective! We were even in Publisher’s Weekly so your parents will care about it!
All of my comics are up on the Pulp’s website powerpulpcomics.com! It’s exciting stuff!
This was a long enough post I think…
Oh Wait! Spakow! 5 is in production. I’m writing and drawing the Wizard Cowboy story for it now! and I did the cover mock up. Here it is!
Have a great day everyone!
When 4 is in the shop, I will definitely order! Awesome news
